The Trip To The Moon

The preparations for the moon landing were called the Apollo program.Mounted on huge SATURN V rockets,a series of apollo spacecraft were launched.The program began with a desaster while carrying out routine test in the apollo first capsule, 3 astronauts (Virgil Grissom,White @ chaffe) were killed in a fire caused by an electrical fault.

Three months later, a Russian, Vladimir m. Komarov (1927-1967),was killed when a problem has sent to his spacecraft hurtling back into the earth atmosphere much faster than intended.His spacecraft burned up in the intense heat.

Despited this tragedies,work went ahead, @ in December 1968,Apollo 8 made 10 orbits of the moon and returned safely to the earth.Apollo 10 in 1969 was the dressed rehearsal for the final assault.

All went well and two months later apollo 11 was launched. The crew of three was commanded by Neil Armstrong (1930).He was to be accompanied to the moon landing by Eugene,Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin Jr. (1930),while the third man , Michael Collins,was to remain orbiting the moon command module.

The launched on July 16, 1969 went without a hitched.At mission control in Houston,Texas,huindreds of people watched the rockets progress.Huge computers set the spacecraft on a course to the moon.Seventy miles above the moon surface,Collins put the part of the craft,Eagle and Columbia  into orbit.
